Laptop Information

Students are provided with a laptop to use for their classwork at Medaille College. It is the students resposibility to maintain the laptop in working condition. Here is some information if you need some support with your machine.

Common Questions:

Q: How do I create restore disks?

For Toshiba Laptops:
To start making your recovery discs, please click on the icon on your desktop, then click on Burn.
You will need mutliple CD-R(s) as it is displayed on your screen.

For IBM laptops:

- To create restore disks for your machine click the blue “ThinkVantage” button.
- Then select, Data Protection and Recovery,
- Then select backup and restore my data.
- Click “Create and View Backups”
- Then select the CDR\DVR option to burn a copy of your system on CDs.

Q: I need help to troubleshoot an issue on my machine.
Q: My machine is broken, or will not turn on.

If you need your Toshiba laptop serviced, call 1-866-257-8610, specify that you have ON-SITE support.

If you need your IBM laptop serviced, call 1-800-426-7378, specify that you have ON-SITE support.

Note: For Models received before September 2004 call 1-800-457-7777 you will have to either mail in your machines or bring them into a Toshiba repair center.

Q: My Machine was Lost/Stolen.

A: Please call Mary Potter at the main campus 716-880-2235 for more information.


For IBM Laptops:

Backing up your system

You can backup important data several ways.

-Burn data to the CD/DVDR drive
-Use a flash drive to store important data.
-E-mail files to yourself.
-Use the “Backup Now” feature on your machine to create a restore point
(note: may take an hour to backup)

Support for your IBM Laptop

If your machine is not working, in the ThinkVantage menu you can diagnose many hardware problems.

- Press the blue “ThinkVantage” button on the machine.
- Then select “help and support”, Get Help and Support
- You can run diagnostics, or view materials that can help you there.

If all else fails call 1-800-426-7378 for support, you have on-site support so if there are repairs they will send someone to work on your machine next business day.
